COVID-19 Press Release

Moisson Montréal Activates Measures to Avoid the Spread of COVID-19

Montreal, March 13, 2020 – In order to ensure the safety and security of all Quebecers who receive food donations from our various partner organizations, Moisson Montréal has put in place preventative measures with regards to the evolving COVID-19.

“Our priority is to ensure the continued distribution of essential services to our community organizations, while taking all necessary preventative measures recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), Canada’s Public Health Agency, Premier François Legault’s Office, the Santé et Service Sociaux du Québec’s Office, as well as Quebec’s Office for Public Safety,” explains Richard D. Daneau, Executive Director of Moisson Montréal.

New Preventative Measures

All persons visiting Moisson Montréal locations, whether an employee, volunteer, member of an accredited community organization or simply a visitor, must, from now on, complete a form and declare the following:

• Have they travelled outside the country in the last 14 days
• Do they live with someone who has travelled outside the country in the last 14 days
• Have they been infected by COVID-19
• Are they exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19
• Do they live with someone who has symptoms of COVID-19

If they answer yes to any of the above questions, the person will be refused access.

Furthermore, special sanitary hygiene measure have been put in place to reduce the risk of contraction or transmission.

Reduced Work Teams

Management has decided to reduce the scale at each warehouse workstation, to a maximum of only 10 volunteers per station, in order to reduce the number of people grouped together in one area.

Moisson Montréal needs at least 85 volunteers to operate and ensure food distribution to our 250 partner organizations. Considering the economic and social consequences or this pandemic, vulnerable people will also need food aid. It is therefore important that Moisson Montréal continue to supply these organizations that fulfill 567,000 monthly requests for food aid on the island of Montreal. With these newly implemented sanitation measures, our volunteers can continue to offer services safely.
