Portrait of actors in food security on the island of Montreal
How many people go hungry every day in Montreal? Who are they, where are they located and what can we do to help them? Moisson Montreal, in partnership with the Système alimentaire montréalais (SAM), has produced a study to help answer these questions.
Highlights from the 2018-2019 report :
- 668 organizations are working directly or indirectly to combat food insecurity in Montreal, 427 more than the 241 accredited (as of the date of the study);
- 20% of the organizations surveyed have identified food insecurity as their primary mission;
- 80% of the organizations surveyed offer food aid but have a broader mission (community center, religious organization, shelter, youth organization, etc.)
